There are many ways to help your neighbors during this time of crisis. One of our most valued community service partners, West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) has transformed its operations, innovated new food delivery models, and built new partnerships to serve the most vulnerable during this time.
Now through April 30, you can virtually purchase food, which will be delivered to their pantry and safely distributed to families across New York City. Click here to virtually shop for and donate food. This is also a great activity to do with children!
Thank you for your book donations for Project Cicero! We filled 11 large boxes with more than 500 books for NYC public schools in need!
Thank you to our second graders for leading the drive by sharing its importance with all of our students! If you didn't get a chance to donate, or would like to do more, you can donate via Project Cicero's Amazon Wishlist. Please be sure to select Project Cicero mailing address as the shipping option!
Our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Graders made Valentines Day Cards to support Meals on Wheels. The cards will be hand delivered with meals to homebound New Yorkers in time for the holiday. Thank you to our fabulous teachers for taking the time to do this with students and to our students for making such loving and beautiful art work for their neighbors in need.
Thank you to ALL of the PS 452 families and staff who donated to our City Harvest Daily News Food Drive! With your help, we had our most successful food drive to date, donating nearly 1,000 pounds of food for New Yorkers in need.
We also had a very successful online fundraising drive, raising $606! You can still donate here if you would like!
Special thanks to our Pre-K and K students and families for leading the way, and parent volunteers Tamar Rosenberg and Brian Rooney who were an immense help to our community throughout the drive!
Our pre-K and Kindergarten students are leading a school-wide food drive in partnership with City Harvest from Nov. 13 - Dec. 2. Parent volunteers will discuss the food drive with PS 452 youngest students and ALL families are welcome to contribute by bringing needed items to school, reading books with your children, and making an online donation. PS 452 fifth graders are working with Westside Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) this year. Small groups of students are taking turns over the next few months portioning and packing food for families in need to shop for on their monthly visits. WSCAH was the first pantry in the country to implement a choice-style market. Families are given a budget based on their family size and invited to decide which foods are best for them, including items that they know how to cook and like to eat, which increases dignity and decreases food waste.
In FY 2019, WSCAH provided 1.6 million pounds of food to 11,300 families. The organization, which has been serving the upper west side for 40 years, also has a social services team and counselor, runs a culinary pathways program, a 12-week course free for people with employment barriers, and a mobile market.
WSCAH is also collecting for their Thousand Turkey Challenge for Thanksgiving! You can donate by clicking on the button below.
Our third graders visited Riverside Park to clean up leaves and other debris in the park as part of their community service project. Take a look at the wonderful work they accomplished and the fun they had together to brighten up our park.
