After-School Programs

Arts and Athletics

arts and athletics logs Greetings from all of us at Arts and Athletics!   Registration is now open for Fall Cycle 2022 which will run for twelve weeks from Monday, September 12th to Friday, December 9th. Arts and Athletics follows the NYC DoE calendar and afterschool is not conducted when schools are closed. Additionally, Wednesday, November 23, the day before Thanksgiving, afterschool will not take place.   To register, make changes to pickup lists, or make payments, visit artsandathletics.org and click the red button for 'Manage Account.'   Your login is your email: Your password is: (Private, Retrieve Online)  Also, if you have designated a 'parent 2' in your family account, they will also be able to login and register your children with their email address (paulb1227@aol.com). Please decide amongst yourselves who will do the registering to avoid cancelling each other's selections and, as always, avoid creating duplicate accounts. Only one account per family.  Arts and Athletics at PS 452 is fully licensed as a school-age childcare program by the New York State Department of Health and we are cleared to offer a wide range of classes, including a Pre-K component! The offerings for the 2022-23 school year include:   Science Explorations, Creative Writing, First Steps to Musical Theater, Crafts, Group Guitar Lessons, Yoga, Story Time, Playground Games, Drawing and Cartooning, Ballet, Glee Club, Kickball, Basketball, and Creative Movement and Dance, and more!   Click here to view all Arts and Athletics offerings for PS 452: https://artsandathletics.org/additional-info/afterschool-classes/?loc=452  We are very excited about this slate of classes, but we are open to adding more based on interest and demand. If there is something you think your child would enjoy, please let us know and we will try to add it.    As for logistics, each class meets one day per week, so if you sign up for Monday Selected Sports it will meet on each of the Mondays for the twelve-week cycle. If you need coverage every day, then you would select a Monday class, a Tuesday class, etc through Friday.   A typical schedule will include one enrichment class (e.g Dance, Basketball, Musical Theater) and one Study Time (homework help) class each day. Enrichment classes are typically $400 for the twelve-week cycle. If your child is signed up for an enrichment class on given day, then the additional Study Time class is $120 for the twelve-week cycle or reduced to $60 for the cycle if your child's program also includes four or five enrichment classes. If you sign up for only Study Time early session (with no enrichment class on that day) then Study Time is $250 for the cycle. Assuming one enrichment and one Study Time per day, the total cost for coverage from school dismissal until 6pm Monday through Friday is about $2300 for the twelve-week cycle, which works out to $38 per day or about $11 per hour.   For other registration questions, you can visit our FAQ page here: https://artsandathletics.org/faq/ For week one logisticals: https://artsandathletics.org/first-week-faq/ For questions specific to PS 452, click here: https://artsandathletics.org/Ps-452/  A word about 'Study Time' which is sometimes referred to as Homework Help.  In Study Time, children are able to work alongside their peers with a qualified teacher who can assist them. It is not a dry 'study hall' but has a productive and casually social vibe where children feel supported as they complete their work. Study Time is also a lower cost option, so for parents who need coverage from dismissal until 6pm, it is typical to enroll in one enrichment class and one Study Time session per day. For younger children who don't have much homework, Study Time will include a range of games, read-alouds, activities, puzzles, reading material, and other things to engage children for the 80 minute session.  Please use only your existing account to register and don't create multiple accounts. (Duplicate accounts are deleted along with any classes selected under them.)  Of course if you have questions about any of our programs, feel free to call me or any member of the Arts and Athletics team...  Best regards, Neil Neil Fitzgerald, Director info@artsandathletics.org mobile: 917-279-7345 office: 212-621-9166  Cece Soto, Site Supervisor cece@artsandathletics.org mobile: 929-900-3452

We are thrilled to announce that the afterschool chess program will be starting up again in person on Mondays in the fall.

NY Scholastic Chess Club has been working with students of PS 452 for many years teaching both in school and afterschool. The program is open to all students of all levels and will be starting September 12th.
