PS 452 Bird Club

The PS 452 Bird Club meets once a month after school to watch and learn about the birds that visit our neighborhood. On the Bird Club days, Mr. O'Reilly (PS 452 PE Teacher) leads students on bird walks in the school yard and local parks to see what birds we can find. They return to the front of the school's main entrance for pickup at 4:00pm. Please provide an after school snack for your child on these days.

Students should be dressed for the weather and should bring binoculars. If anyone does not have binoculars, Mr. O'Reilly has a few extra that can be borrowed. On days where the weather will not allow students to go outside, they will spend the time inside learning and playing games about birds.

A checklist of the birds students see on these days will be kept on This is a scientific research-based website designed to monitor bird populations and movements. It is also a great way to track the number of species you have seen. Mr. O'Reilly recommends each student get their own eBird login to track their "Life List" of bird species. Once you have shared your student's login name with Mr. O'Reilly, he can share the checklist with them which will update their life list.

Since students leave school grounds, NYC DOE Field Trip Release Forms and volunteers will be required. Release forms will be sent home for participants. Volunteers for each individual walk can sign up below as well.

If you have any questions, contact Mr. O'Reilly at
