After-School Programs
Arts and Athletics Afterschool
ARTS AND ATHLETICS
Registration is now open for Winter Cycle 2021-22 which will run for twelve weeks from Monday, November 15th to Friday, February 18th. After school classes are conducted each day that school is in session, with the exception of Wednesday, November 24th, prior to Thanksgiving.
Each class meets one day per week, so if you sign up for Monday Selected Sports it will meet on each of the Mondays for the twelve-week cycle. If you need coverage every day, then you would select a Monday class, a Tuesday class, etc through Friday.
Enrichment classes (Sports/Crafts/Music) are typically $375 for the twelve-week cycle. Study Time/Supervised Activity classes are $120 for the twelve-week cycle and go down in price as you sign up for more days. The total cost for coverage from dismissal until 6pm Monday through Friday is about $2100 for the twelve-week cycle, which works out to $35 per day or about $10 per hour.

A central feature of the Arts and Athletics afterschool programs is the wide variety of electives, including soccer, coding, musical theater, web design, chess, creative writing, fencing, basketball, and martial arts. However, in order to launch more quickly at PS 452, we have opted to begin simply with only a Selected Sports class during the early sessions and Study Time/Supervised Activity during the late sessions. This simple program will be in place up to the winter recess, December 23rd. Once we have established the routines and gotten to know the PS 452 community, we will add other classes. We expect that when we return from winter break January 3rd, we will present a number of electives that you can choose from.
A word about 'Study Time' which is sometimes referred to as Homework Help. In Study Time, children are able to work alongside their peers with a qualified teacher who can assist them. It is not a dry 'study hall' but has a productive and casually social vibe where children feel supported as they complete their work. Study Time is also a lower cost option, so for parents who need coverage from dismissal until 6pm, it is typical to enroll in one enrichment class and one Study Time session per day. For younger children who don't have much homework, Study Time will include a range of games, read-alouds, activities, puzzles, reading material and other things to engage children for the 80 minute session.
